Our History

Established on April 24th, 1943 under the name “Chaldean Iraqi Association” (CIA), this organization has evolved into the “Chaldean Iraqi American Association of Michigan” (CIAAM). Initially founded by a handful of immigrants escaping persecution, it aimed to provide a better life for their families and communities. Through hard work and dedication, they laid the groundwork for a strong foundation that would serve future generations. Since its inception in 1943, CIAAM has acquired and developed two homes – “Southfield Manor,” built in 1981, and “Shenandoah Country Club”, purchased in 1989 and reconstructed in 2002.

Today, Shenandoah Country Club has about 1,500 members and almost 5,000 including their families. This country club boasts an impressive array of amenities, including an Olympic-size swimming pool, fitness center, one of the largest grand ballrooms in Michigan, and a private dining room offering authentic Iraqi cuisine overlooking a private PGA-style golf course.

As a result of becoming a private club, members have ample opportunities to form close relationships and foster a sense of belonging. Shenandoah will always be the home away from home for our members and their families. Celebrating each milestone and memory along the way.
